Open call: Monument to the employees of Kombiteks

Artists, designers, architects, and other practitioners from Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, are invited to participate in the conceptualization and design of a monument to the fallen soldiers and war victims who were employees of Kombiteks. The intention is to create a conceptual solution that, as an artistic object, best fulfills the task of commemorating and preserving their memory. In remembering the victims of the past war, the goal is to obtain a monument that can resonate with the contemporary culture and serve as a reminder of the devastating war of the 1990s. Additionally, the desire is to have a well-founded, situated, and contextualized object in the public space that has the ability to enhance spatial dynamics, stop passersby, and through its materialization, access sequences, composition, and harmonization with the immediate environment of the KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture, evoke memories of the war victims of the Kombiteks textile combine. This would replace the temporarily placed monument that did not fulfill its aesthetic and design purpose at the time of its creation, and which is currently located on the western side of KRAK along the road connecting the residential area of Hatinac with the industrial zone of the Kombiteks textile combine.

The Open call at this stage is envisioned as a conceptual project, with the intention of promoting artistic, architectural, and design strategies aimed at creating new spatial values and transforming existing conditions. This competition envisions the long-term replacement of the existing monument with hopes for its long-term implementation.

The jury will consist of experts, namely: Ena Kukić, architect (Sarajevo, Graz); Adnan Dupanović, artist (Bihać); Sijana Hošić, architect (Bihać).
