    Sheefy McFly

Center for Contemporary Culture KRAK (Hamze Hume bb, Bihać)
Concert: Friday, 27 September 2024, at 9 pm

Sheefy McFly is a multifaceted artist deeply rooted in the urban fabric of American Detroit. His creative identity is tied to the layers of a city that has experienced total disintegration. As an artist, and despite the aesthetics of decay, McFly recognizes the "hidden beauty" in his hometown, and he likes to say that he represents the authentic culture of Detroit. Growing up, he formed himself with radio culture and different musical styles to later design and organize some of the local hip-hop alternative events such as The Air Up There (2009).

The artist, whose real name is Tashif Turner, builds the design process around bass-beats and vocal a capella elements. His music is a fusion of genres such as hip-hop, techno, ghetto tech, house, electro and everything in between. Intuitively and directly, his things are woven from emphasized sound units that reflect personal moods and current states. McFly, by its creative determination, consciously places himself in the context of African-American culture, within which history and social heritage play an important role. In this regard, the significant epochs of local history serve as pillars of reflection and inspiration: the obliterated heritage and urbicide of the black population of the eastern part of Detroit in the 1950s, the music production of Motown in the 1960s, the techno-culture of the 1980s. The latter is considered the mental lifeblood of contemporary musical practice locally, but also globally, because that genre will later infect the whole world.

In addition, McFly is a music producer, DJ and mural painter whose visual expression comes from playing music. So far, he has released five albums and four EPs. He collaborated with musicians Moodymann and DJ Godfather, and he considers other Detroit performers as relatives, such as Danny Brown, Royce da 5'9", Carl Craig, Aux 88, Phat Kat, Slim Village.

The event in KRAK is part of a wider effort to connect Detroit with Bihać and is realized with the support of the City of Bihać.
