    Don Kapot

KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture (Hamze Hume bb, Bihać)
Concert: Thursday, 10 April 2025, at 9 pm

Don Kapot is a Belgian trio that builds its musical expression by breaking down genre boundaries. Although formally rooted in the practice of modern jazz with a generous dose of noise, their structures incorporate elements of krautrock, Afro-rhythms, punk, and electronics. They create sonic richness and volume through the powerful tones of each individual instrument. The drums, bass guitar, baritone saxophone, and other instruments used are at times in service of a constructive approach to melody, tempo, and meter, while at other times they serve as elements of deconstruction. All of this is harnessed in pursuit of an inventive approach to music, reflecting a drive to push artistic boundaries. This results in a final product that is difficult to define within a specific genre. By nature, Don Kapot’s music is erratic, unsettling, and unpredictable.

Don Kapot's music is marked by a certain layered complexity. It is simultaneously humorous and serious, fierce and tender, complex and simple. Nevertheless, Don Kapot is a band with a strong artistic character – very direct and uncompromising. The combination of drums, bass guitar, and baritone saxophone often sounds like controlled thunder and chaos. The occasional eruption of childlike keyboard tones alludes to a homemade aesthetic, lending their musical atmosphere a distinct ambient quality. Ultimately, the style that emerges from Don Kapot's sonic laboratory transcends the capabilities of a three-piece group, pointing to complex performance protocols more commonly associated with larger ensembles.

Don Kapot consists of Giotis Damianidis (bass guitar), Viktor Perdieus (saxophone, flute, keyboard), and Jakob Warmenbol (drums). Their latest album, I Love Tempo, suggests an explosive charge and intensity. The track Remedy, released at the end of 2024, features vocal sequences layered over a fractured rhythm, filled with digressions, twists, and expected breakdowns.

Don Kapot’s performance at the KRAK Center is organized with the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation and Wallonie-Bruxelles International.
