    Dino Rešidbegović & Rijad Kaniža

    CANCELED

KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture (Hamze Hume bb, Bihac)
Concert: Friday, April 12 2024, at 8 pm

Dino Rešidbegović and Rijad Kaniža are representatives of musical expression in Bosnia and Herzegovina operating in the field of contemporary artistic electronic and electroacoustic music. Although both of them work independently, their performance at KRAK is conceived as an experimental laboratory of research, interaction and collaboration. The desire is to open a discursive and performative space for a third musical line that consciously handles concepts, abstract categories and steps towards sound dematerialization.

What connects Rešidbegović and Kaniža is the research of sound changes, i.e., the examination of sound materials generated through analog and digital technology. At the same time, a new musicality emerges as a distinct avant-garde in the European cultural space and wider, which recognizes sonicity as the backbone of today's expressiveness. Their practice originates from the pioneers of electronic art music in Bosnia and Herzegovina such as Josip Magdić, Mladen Milićević and Igor Karača.

The aesthetics of Rešidbegović's works are characterized by a specific sonority which results from experiments at different levels of musical complexity. Such expressiveness opens up the possibility to become aurally aware of sound changes in real time. Conversely, Kaniža’s work, through the phenomena of recorded sound, problematizes models and music idioms taken from popular culture and recontextualizes them in a new musical or technological environment. During their concerts at KRAK, the composers will use analog and digital sound synthesizers as instruments, as well as various electroacoustic technology, including computers and microphones.

Dino Rešidbegović was educated in Sarajevo and Vienna and has been a member of the Austrian Association of Composers (ÖKB) since 2007. He co-founded the Institute for Contemporary Art Music (INSAM). His works have been performed in concert halls in Europe, America and Japan. Rijad Kaniža is a postgraduate student at the Department of Composition of the Music Academy at the University of Sarajevo, where he works with electronic and electroacoustic music. Both Rešidbegović and Kaniža are employed at the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo.

The performance of Dino Rešidbegović and Rijad Kaniža at KRAK is organized with the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation.
