    Damir Avdić Graha

    CANCELED

KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture (Hamze Hume bb, Bihać)
Concert: Friday, June 14, 2024, at 9 pm

Damir Avdić is a writer, poet, musician and performer of fierce, direct and unrefined artistic expression. He came to light due to his picturesque recitals accompanied by an electric guitar. His performance is based on the hardcore and punk register without striving to be sleek and likable. Avdić’s appearances are immensely rooted in his anger, and he tackles the most diverse topics of local everyday life, therefore he has been rightfully called the Bosnian psycho by the audience. Avdić is the exact opposite of everything known and as such an authentic artistic phenomenon of contemporary Bosnian culture.

In order to get a clearer understanding of Avdić's music production, one could say that it sounds like an impassable thicket. Spoken verses are complicated by difficult words and sharp phrases which spare no one. The artist seems to be cutting through a fixed space which has not been ventilated for a long time, thereby raising the audience's involvement to a completely new level. Without restraint and the need to be politically correct, Avdić gives his listeners the impression of a blow to the head. His performances include explicit vocabulary and noise as means of addressing the current topics of the Bosnian reality.

Regarded as a “subversive prophet” or “Ayatollah of rock and roll” by critics, Avdić successfully conducts a vivisection of the painful Bosnian-Herzegovinian reality with his lyrics. His enumerations probe deep into the social fabric of the local individual and his community. He is a brave rabble-rouser whose lyrics address the cultural and political establishment of neoliberal values, and as such he is an important protagonist of freedom of expression in our surroundings. Avdić has so far released eight music albums and published five books. He composes music for theater and film.

Damira Avdić’s performance at KRAK Center is organized with the support of the Robert Bosch Foundation.
