Abdullah Miniawy
KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture (Hamze Hume bb, Bihac)
Concert: Friday, December 27, 2024, at 9 pm
Abdullah Miniawy is a multi-talented performer whose art is permeated with the revolutionary sensibility of the Cairo "Arab Spring", and whose poetics is anchored in the idea of artistic freedom and civil diversity of the modern individual. In terms of style, Abdullah Miniawy's vocal performances come from the same habitat of fiery Egyptian performers of Sufi music such as Ahmed al Tuni or Yasin al Tuhami, where the mix of mysticism, direct expression and sediments of heritage form a unique cultural product.
Miniawy is a composer, poet, singer and actor in whose works the conceptualization of the performance is very important. His expression combines avant-garde electronic soundscapes with elements of rap culture or poetic recitals of the Nile Valley. He composed numerous tracks and sound solutions for dance choreographies, theater performances and exhibitions. Miniawy collaborated with artists such as Erik Truffaz, Kamilya Jubran, Yom, Médéric Collignon, Aly Talibab, A Filetta, Simo Cell.
Through his latest collaboration with the trio Carl Gari, Miniawy has produced digital sounds of massive and powerful layers. Hypnotic sequences of industrial rock, ambient broken rhythms and overlaying elegiac vocals in Arabic render imaginary walks through the sand dunes of the desert or the lush vegetation of the Nile Delta. A certain amount of tension is constantly present.
Abdullah Miniawy will have a solo performance at KRAK Center, which is based on his voice and ambient soundtrack. In addition to numerous collaborations with top musicians of a wide range of genres, his solo performance indicates unique skills in dealing with the voice as the main means of expression. Minimal but thoughtful interventions suggest a cinematic experience and a first-class scenic experience.
Abdullah Miniawy’s performance at KRAK Center is supported by the Foundation for Arts Initiatives.
